I wish I had a pixies pocket.
Mum of two, a quiet thoughtful little girl and whirling dervish of a boy.
Maybe those are the wonders in my pocket.Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.comBlogger42125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6598650359396586850.post-43236707251935262892011-12-04T16:19:00.001-08:002011-12-04T16:19:36.722-08:00Silent Sunday

I would never have thought that there was a 'typical' girl or boy.

I don't think I would call myself a typical girl, I know Nothing about make up and don't see myself as dressing particularly girlie, though I do like a skirt and a tighter top than a mans tee.

When I was younger I felt I was in with the boys, climbed the trees, though there are very few that you can climb up here in the windy North, went to Scouts. Things like that.
To be honest, I guess I have never really thought about it.

What is girly and what is boyish?
I was just ....Me.

But my Darling, Mrs Goo?
Boy is she girly!
She loves nothing more than dressing up and failing that, she will choose a skirt/dress over trousers Everytime!
She Loves her long hair and loves getting me to curl it or put it up.

Every morning I put her hair up and she stands so still because she is sooo excited to see what I have done.

'Take a picture Mummy, so I can see it!'

At school, I insist that she has it pulled back completely, I am so paranoid about her getting nits in her gorgeous long hair.

Today though, was a day off (the school teachers are on Strike) so she got to wear it down.
Happy goo!

Here is Todays hairstyle.

Boys though, what are boys meant to like.
When I discovered that I was expecting a 'Mr Goo' I had that panic when you worry that you won't be as bonded to your second child, how can you love another as much as you do your first? Then the what do I do with a little boy? Girls I get, afterall, I am one. Boys??

Mr Goo is a funny wee man, though I am discovering that the things he loves are, typically, loved by most boys.
You cannot get him away from buttons!
Have not been able to since he was a toddling baby.
And spinning thing!
oh boy, seventh heaven!

His running obsession is CDs. Music in general he just Loves.
But, where you might find children carrying their favourite teddy/comforter, Mr Goo carries CDs. On his first finger, with the tip crooked so they don't fall off.
He has been known to have 7 or 8 stacked up, later complaining of his finger mysteriously hurting. hmm, can't think why ;)

Here he is with Daddy, doing his 'Most Muscular' pose.
It was only when I downloaded the images that I realised how different my children are.

Though, perhaps I should add. Mrs Goo loves to pull her 'Most Muscular' pose as often as Mr Goo does.
And, Mr Goo, for a Very very long time, requested Tinkerbell everytime he wanted to watch a DVD.

Who knows. Not sure there is anything 'typical' about them at all.Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6598650359396586850.post-59292226716884713592011-11-28T14:32:00.001-08:002011-11-29T06:10:01.784-08:00Grannys BirthdayWhat to get for the Granny who needs nothing?

I am a happy bunny today!
My reason to be cheerful is just in the satisfaction of a day where I feel I have achieved
Something
anything

Today was a good one.
I love being able to list of my achievements to hubs when he gets home from work.
He doesn't question or quiz what I do with my days, with the children, he is just happy and proud that he is in a position to enable me to be a SAHM.

On the days that I have a list, I am as happy as...........I don't know what.
Simple things really.
Today it was stripping the three beds, washing the bed clothes and getting them all back onto the beds.
Having a tidy kitchen and house in general.
And showing him the tins full of lovely cookies.
He won't eat them, he is too strict with his diet. Silly boy!
But when I reel of my list, I know he appreciates what I have achieved, mostly for the fact that it creates a happy wife.

I am full of appreciation for my lovely hubby for going to the shops, first thing this morning, to get the few things I needed to get on with my baking (School Fayre tommorrow), so that I didn't have to hash and bash through my day trying to do it all.

Today has been finished off so lovely by my turning on the box to discover that there is a film on, about the book I read just last month!
Happy times!

A good day all round really!Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6598650359396586850.post-86465727784524275502011-05-24T13:33:00.000-07:002011-05-24T13:33:01.740-07:00People StampingI just had to try out the stamps we got at the car boot sale at the weekend!
I just love rooting out bargains, so I think this one will suit me!
Car Boot sales are my favourites! Going between the tables in a hall, or up and down row after row at an outdoor sale.
I live in the back of beyond, so real carboots are few and far between.
When we go sould , to visit the inlaws, I make Hubs plan it around a big sale!
I get twitchy if I don't go for a look around the charity shops for a while and I Love that we finally have a second hand furniture shop!

This week there was a car boot sale on at my local hall, so I took the family along for a look and a chat with the stall holders.

As soon as I walked in I spotted something.
Big purple and yellow Sponge rectangles.
On closer inspection it turned out it was big shapes for stamping.
Check it out!

We can make people!
I thought my two would have the best time with these.
And how much did she want?
Just £1 !

Same stall had a packet of facepaints!
Yippee. I have been looking into buying some for my two for ages, but they can be so expensive!

Another £1 !
Punching the air now!

Here is my attempt.
Ah, now not so sure. I am, of course blaming the paints. They were not very creamy and it turned out they were teeny tiny thin disks.
(Dervish is meant to be a bumble bee, Darling is a cat)
Still. We should get a few goes out of them and they were happy with my efforts!

I picked up a DVD for our evening viewing (telly was poo that night anyway) another £1.
My two had their faces painted by someone who knew what they were doing and I got a load of plant plugs for £6
I forget, now, what she told me they were.
I know I got six cabbages, for hubs, some red ones that will come up with my daffys. Some more red ones that will be about 50cm and droopy (haha. They sounded interesting to me, anyway!) and some blue ones that will come back year after year.
All planted out immediately!

Yahay!
I love a good sale me!

It has been so long since I have written Reasons to be cheerful, I think it is about time I did!
I re-found Mummy from the Heart the other day and realised what a lovely idea it was to look for the positives even when times are tough.

So here are mine this week.

Reason no 1
My house is Not selling.
Might seem like an odd reason to be cheerful but this is a good thing.
The way the market has gone we have had to drop our asking price, to the point of zero profits.
So hubs and I have decided that selling now might not be for the best. Perhaps in a couple of years.
However, to take it off the market costs over £200. So it will remain on for the time being.
If someone offers us the reduced price I feel we ought to sell. A bird in the hand. . . . . and all that jazz.
So I am happy that it is not selling for now.

Reason no 2
Dervish had his third taster session at Playgroup yesterday and seems to be really enjoying it!
I was really worried that he would be all clingy and scared but all he was scared by was the bell going as we were in the corridor, on our second visit.
On this third visit, he whimpered a little as he went in, but was Immediately distracted by glueing and sticking! haha
By the time I came back he was chattering away ten to the dozen and teh leaders had been finding him really funny!
Very proud of my little boy today!

Reason no 3
My children are happy.
In general they are happy wee beans and they get on well together.
I mean, I know they are only 4.5 and 2.5 and that this will not last forever. But, for now, it is lovely to see them together playing and laughing.
What more does any mother need?Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6598650359396586850.post-85934543430616813432011-05-16T13:42:00.000-07:002011-05-16T14:11:49.222-07:00Butterfly bagEvery week we go to a music class locally aimed for my childrens age group.
In fact it is aimed at three parents and their children.
We each have one child who is 5, or nearly 5, and a sibling who is 2. The class is geared towards our children specifically.
The other classes that she holds are more aimed for babies or toddlers so it is just great that we have this music session to go to, especially for us.
Dervish is in his element when he is there. He is a huge fan of music in general. We rarely have a quiet house for long before he is requesting 'dancies' on. I don't mind in the slightest because he doesn't mind what I put on just so long as there is a beat of some sort for him to jig along to.

The teacher is just great with Dervish too and his constant requests for a specific song that he calls 1,2,3. That is what you do in the song, listen then jump the 1,2,3 beat or shake your jingly bells into the centre etc etc. It is only 1.30mins long but it is all that Dervish needs to keep him happy!

A while back we were doing the butterfly song, which envolves gentle music and little butterfly finger puppets that we make dance to the tune.
The teacher laughed at the bag that they were contained, or rather, not contained in. Saying that she really had ought to get a bigger/better bag for them.

So I put this piece of info away in my brain as the perfect wee gift to give for our last session.

Last week she reminded us that this week would be the last session and she didn't say that the next would continue on from the last, as it had the last time.
So I thought righto, better get on and make that bag.

But, as is my way, I forgot until the very last minute!
Class at 2pm, I remembered at about 1230 just as I was thinking that I ought to make lunch!

So lunch was on the hop as I scrambled to find the blank canvas bag I had and my fabric paints.
I had been thinking about how I was going to do it.
My fave idea was for Dervish to paint his hand, slap it down on paper, then fold, to make a buttefly image.
But I was concerned that the fabric paint is kinda funny to work with and it might dry out too much before I could transfer it onto the bag.

But now I had Darling at home so I would have to incorporate their two hands (that was better anyway cos they both go, afterall)

So, last minute, I decided rainbow hands, hers on top as the bigger wings, his on the bottom as the smaller ones.
Fingers crossed for it working!

I had 4 colours, but needed five, so asked Darling B what colour to make.
Silly question, Darling is a huge Orange fan!

We have been away for a wee easter break, down to the inlaws for a few days.
Dervish's spots didn't come to much, so I am still unsure if he had Chicken Pox or not. I guess he did, but it was so mild that it didn't seem to affect him. I expect it will return with a vengance when he is older. Darling seems to have avoided it completely.
I am sure it would have been fine to go see my big brother and his girlfriend, but I think it was better not to cause any upset or worry.

So, for the last couple of weeks we have just been moseying along.
It has been lovely actually.
Very carefree.Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6598650359396586850.post-14908183310578587342011-05-08T14:11:00.000-07:002011-05-08T14:11:33.950-07:00Silent Sunday

Angry looking things they are.
Lifted his top to reveal 3 or 4 littler ones on his tummy.
Panic Stations!
We are meant to be visiting my Brother and his pregnant girlfirend this weekend.
SO off to the doctor we scooted.
He took one look and, just as I was saying 'They could just as easily be midgie bites, but I need to check cos....', glanced in my direction as if to confirm, then began searching books to show me what chicken pox really looks like.
But the next day one of them started to look a little like it was developing. A bath later revealed a few more on his groin.
But the next day he wakes up and no red cheeks, the spots are less angry and the ones on his groin are few.

So how the heck do you know!!?

I mean spots don't appear on your child for no reason, but if the doc dismissed me and dervish isn't feverish or wappit.....??

I just don't know what to do with him or us?

Does he or doesn't he.
Should he and Darling be in Quarantine or not?
Can we go see our in laws, they have had it and a holiday was planned anyway. Poor DH hasn't had a break since Christmas and being with his parents as my child has chicken pox would be handy/helpful if not a little tense at times. But being in someone elses house always is.

So red spots angry looking, wee head on one, more arriving but not wappit boy or itchyness.
Is it just very mild chicken pox or not?Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6598650359396586850.post-68381826415216237602011-04-17T12:55:00.000-07:002011-04-17T12:57:15.879-07:00Silent Sunday

Ok, gosh, where to start? No, How to start.......

I could go with the obvious one, the temper, but hey I guess they will know about that one, so no point in trying to convince myself I can keep it hidden.
Though I would rather they never see the full extent that it can get to. Rows are normal but fury, I can only hope that that can remain contained.

Someone wrote about drinking. I had my time with drinking when I was a Student. I guess, in a way I am proud of those days. I didn't drink until I was 18 then I didn't really do that in my home town (too small, too many people to tell me what I did) but I think I made up for it when I was annonymous in the city. But boy do I Never want my children to know/see me in that state.

I hope they never see me as lost and floundering. As I feel I am now. I don't really know what I am or what I want to be. I hope that they have a clearer direction in their life and never really realise that I never did. What I mean is, I want to be a better role model. I am sure I will be, eventually, but I don't think I want them to think of me as a floundering soul.

hmm....?
Body image, It is important to me that they are body confident. I was very afraid of mine as I grew up. Catholic upbringing I think.
Is afraid the right word?
I don't cover up in front of them because I don't want them to be over conscious but it has taken a bit and I am still not all that happy with me. I don't want them to know that.
Does that make sense?

Last but not least. I don't want them to know that, actually, I really Hate spiders and most creepy crawlies!!
Ok this might change as they get older but right now it is something that I am trying to teach by example, but it is pretty hard to say 'oh look darling an earywig. Isn't it fascinating how many legs he has?!'
No!! Eurch!!!

I took a wee gee one time, nearly two years ago and made her some fabric numbers that she could practice putting into order.
I made them cos she loved sorting paper ones for me.
I would place them down, out of order, then count with her

So it goes 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 4, 7
No no, mummy 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,
ah! I see, silly me! Then it finished 7, 9, 8, 10?
Nooo! silly mummy. 1, 2, 3, 4, .....

And so it went, with me getting just one or two numbers out of sinc and Darling B spotting it. This was when she was just shy of 3.5yrs.

Now, we add.
She places the numbers out on the floor in numerical order.
Chooses a number, practices writing it down on her chalk board.
Then, we have talked about plus signs and take away signs. So she writes down her symbol and chooses another number, popping on her equals sign.
Here she is, with her brother, ready to go.

Now the fun part!

You gotta jump on the first number.
Then, what is the second number?
That is how many you jump on.
Where have you landed?

Horray!!Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6598650359396586850.post-38372227340262543442011-04-11T14:19:00.000-07:002011-04-11T14:19:00.671-07:00Daffy Down DillysIt is the time of year to display all these beautiful Daffys, before they all die off.
We have rows and rows of them just down the lane. I pick some from all along, so that there are no bald patches.

This year I have a fancy new purple vase, my favourite colour! But it has a big wide top.
So I thought that I would need tons of the things to fill it or have them all hanging over the edge and all baldy in the middle.
I figured I would need some way of holding them centrally.
Raffia and that twisty bangy way?
Yeah, that's right, I have no idea how to do that snazzy trick!

So I looked around my house and came across, what I thought, was a Fantastic idea!

A Pint Glass!
Placed inside.
Hmm, looked a bit poo.

Needed jazzing up.
What to do, what to do...........

aha, TWINE!

ah, finally I remembered to take a photy

I started this by leaving the end up, and wrapping it around itself.
Bit dull though, don't you think?

Aha. BEADS!
I had to pull it all off again so that I could thread all the beads I had from the bunch DH gave me for Mothers Day.
I threaded them all on together then just placed them where I fancied as I continued to wrap the twine back on.

You know, when they fall out. Do you scoop them up, make your wish, blow your eyelash away. If you blow it away, you get your wish. If it stays put, you wish won't come true.

You do that, right?
I do.

Well, Darling B had a wish to make tonight and everyone know you gotta tell your mummy your wish or how will it come true?

Her wish today?

I wish that, when we have finished the cakes we have, that I can bake some more for you mummy.
The minute we parked up my 4.5yr old daughter spotted the 20ft high climbing wall and said, 'Mummy, I want to go on That!'

Nothing was going to divert her from her goal, straight across the field she ran!
We thought the queue looked a little long so went to the assault course first instead. This was, of course, aimed at 6yr olds and above but my little girl and, for that matter, my 2.5yr old boy did not let that stop them!

Through the tunnel, over the net (it was waist high for Dervish J!), through the tyres (well, y'know skip through the 6 laid flat) a balancing bar next, with J pushing my assistance aside (until he needed it) over a wall, then a shaky balance bar.
The bar scuppered them both, but Darling B wanted straight back on to try again!

My sister met us at that point and took B to stand in the queue for the wall that she was still Determined to climb!
My Darling B waited for at least 20 minutes in the freezing wind, her desire diminished not a jot.
They took her name at this point and said come back in 15 mins.

So, back she went, to queue for a further 10 minutes.
I can hardly believe that by this point she was not fed up, I have to admit, I was.

But she finally got into her harness and began her ascent!
It was much warmer on this side too, so Mummy, Daddy and brother were much happier now.
I found her latest Bedtime Lullaby blogspot and it really struck a cord with me cos we have our bedtime rituals too. Everybody does, I guess.

But ours began with getting that extra cuddle in.
It started with getting a cuddle and a kiss at bedtime, then we said 'and a squeeze too?'

So now everynight we get our Cuddle, Kiss and Squeeze!
It has extended beyond bedtime though, through Darling B when she said goodbyes to Granny and Grandad. She would do our wee ritual.
'Cuddle, kiss and Squeeze, Granny!'

Now it is everybody and everytime.
Aunties, Uncles and friends, if they will (mainly they won't, so she has to make do with just a wee cuddle)

Super Amazing Mum also had a song that she had to make up the words for it made me smile cos we have a silly song too.
It is so awful that it is funny, to me anyway, haha
It goes with the silly name that we have for her, Mrs Goo, and goes to the tune of Nick Nack Paddy Whack.

Mrs Goo, I love you.
Even when you are a poo
Cos I love you Mrs Goo
Yes I really do
I love you, I truly do

It changes with the situation, what ever way I can get it to rhyme.
It now works for Mr Goo too!

Mr Goo, I love you
Even when you are a Moo
Cos you can just moan and groan
And I'll still love you
Cos you are my Mr Goo

Bit rubbish isn't it!
But it makes me smile to sing it everytime I do!

So not so much bedtime rituals as silly things that have become all day habits!

Oh, I have another!
When I ask then for a kiss.
If they give me a fleeting peck, which are rubbish aren't they?
I say 'Oh that was rubbish. Try again.'
So I get another better one.
If the next is just as rubbish, I repeat it.
Sometimes I just do it for fun, so we end up with lots and lots of rubbishy kisses and lots of giggles!

Thank You Super Amazing Mum, for making me think about the silly things we do!Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6598650359396586850.post-78247591904298927282011-04-01T14:04:00.000-07:002011-04-01T14:04:16.991-07:00We have been shorn! What a lovely morning spent at the hairdressers.
We have found such a lovely lady to do our hair. She lives at the other side of the county to us, but it is well worth the trek.
Her salon is set up in a back room of her house, so it is just you and her. She is great with the children too.
Well, if you count having a bowl of sweeties ready for them ;)
They were in seventh heaven!

I didn't bring my pictures. They wouldn't download to my phone?? I don't know why. So I had to make do with talking my ideas through.
I decided that I just wanted a trim to his fringe, a bit of length of the back and layering throughout to give it movement.

The before shot.

He looks a bit worried doesn't he? Poor love.
He hopped up to that chair with delight. The first of us to have their hair done.

Here he is sitting like an angel to get his hair cut.
You wouldn't believe that he was anything but, would you.
He certainly had the hairdresser convinced ;)

The after shot. Straight to that bowl of sweeties!!
He spent a good while with that lolly in his mouth trying to pull it off it's stick so he could enjoy without the encumberance.
You can't really see any difference with his hair cept that his fringe is clearly shorter but it made a huge difference.
When we washed it, it dried all curly at the back and looks heaps thicker. Brilliant!!

DH thought that he would get more cut off, but I am so not ready to lose the length yet.

Darling B was, of course, a darling. She waited patiently for her turn (gobbling sweeties with a grin so huge!!) then up she hopped for her turn.

She just got a fringe trim and a bit off the back.

First things Granny said
'Oh now you look like a proper little boy!'
intake of breath 'Why did you get so much cut off Darling Bs hair?!'

She had less than an inch taken! :D
Haha, trust Granny to notice!

As for me, well disappointingly I look nothing like Jennifer Aniston or whats'er name.
I made the mistake of saying that I really didn't want a bob, so she layered into it.
Now my longest layer is about shoulder length, shortest is just about ear length.
Looks nice but not quite what I was looking for. So now I will begin the growing out of these layers. Mind you some of them were there already so I guess it was never really going to happen. haha

I think you have wishful thinking when you go to the hairdressers. If I wanted it smooth with only a few layers throughthe bottom, it would have looked more like whats'er name and that would be just a touch too short for me.
Haven't managed a decent shot of me yet.
(she say's. You just know it's cos my children are better looking so Thier mugshots will always be up first!)

Oh, couple of interesting things the haidresser said, well to me anyway.
Darling B does not have brown hair, but Dark Blonde.
HUh, I just thought it was brown.
Mine too.
But I am ash brown, which is still part of the blonde range.

Ah, so I AM a blonde afterall.
That explains a lot!!Monkey Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038151741534840933noreply@blogger.com0
